George Crumb in Residence at Symposium

March 24, 2004

The biennial Composers Symposium celebrates the 75th birthday of George Crumb with music by the Pulitzer prize-winning composer, and with music commissioned in his honor from participants in the symposium.

The 10-day symposium is a program of the University of Oregon School of Music and is directed by Robert Kyr. It is open to interested composers who may apply as participants or auditors. All symposium participants will work with George Crumb and attend a session with Krzysztof Penderecki. Application information is on the symposium website.

In the performance component, The Third Angle New Music Ensemble premieres the new works in three concerts: Friday, July 2 at 2:00 pm, and Saturday, July 3 at 10:00 am and at 2:00 pm, with a special birthday party at noon between the two concerts.

Each concert also includes the music of Crumb and his son, David, who is an assistant professor of composition and theory at the University of Oregon School of Music.

For additional information about the symposium curriculum please call (541) 913-4815 or look on the symposium website.
