Hip Hop DJs Battle in the 3rd Bach Remix

In addition to competing, the three DJs will demonstrate turntabale techniques for the crowd, enhanced by big screen video projections. DJ Marv Ellis will emcee, with guest dancers Raw Action Break Squad adding to the entertainment.

Returning to defend his Remix crown and vie for the $750 first prize is DJ Smuve, who will be challenged by DJ Billy and DJ Celsius.

DJ Smuve, aka Bobby Green Jr., has been a turntable DJ for the past 15 years, appearing in such Eugene clubs as The Mill Camp, Rock N’ Rodeo, Kokomo’s, Tsunami, Taboo, and the Indigo District, as well as many more in the state of Oregon. Along with being a classically trained pianist and multi-genre percussionist, he is also a producer and composer of many original beats and song remixes. Born and raised in Eugene, Smuve is now married and lives in Vancouver, Washington, where plays in popular nightclubs in the Portland area.

DJ Billy, who originally started as a B-Boy back in 1982, is known for his precise scratches and turntable wizardry. His roots stem from funk, break beat, and old school hip-hop. Billy has also helped produce “Down 4 It,” a Eugene hip-hop music and dance event that benefits charity.

Since snaring his first turntables at age 13, DJ Celsius has always focused on utilizing the turntable more as a musical instrument than as a platform for playing the music of others. Now 23, Celsius has performed throughout the Northwest, including venues in Portland as well as the 2004 Bumbershoot festival in Seattle. His passion for turntablism has created opportunities to meet and collaborate with artists from LA to London and many places in between. He currently performs with his hip-hop trio Alliance Crew around Eugene.

Th event emcee, Portland-based DJ Marv Ellis began performing
live with the legendary funk band Papa’s Soul Kitchen at the turn of
the millennium and helped found the legendary hip-hop group Genus Pro,
voted as Eugene’s Best Hip Hop group in 2004. Ellis’ recent career
includes dates with his group Imaginary Friends, a ten piece band that
blends eclectic world flavors driven by drums and lyrics, and is rooted
in revolution through peace.
