New Beginnings of Composers Symposium a must see

Summer’s Bach, bringing with it twenty days of inspiring, enthralling, and impeccably talented musicians to the 2009 Oregon Bach Festival. Also returning is the Composers Symposium, a gathering of 90 emerging composers with performances of music by the participants in three series of events: Concerts (“New Beginnings”); readings (“Virgin Ears Workshops”); and improvisation sessions (“Wild Nights Cafés”). The performers include the symposium’s American Creators Ensemble (ACE) under the mentorship of the Fireworks New Music Ensemble and Beta Collide, directed by Molly Barth and Brian McWhorter.

The new innovative ACE program fosters the creation of new music by its members, who are both composers and performers. The aim of all three series is to create music as a community whose members are equally committed to the music of everyone in the group, as well as of the guest artists.

The future of the program is directed towards inviting others to join ACE, not just through their instruments, but with all aspects of contemporary arts, according to symposium director Robert Kyr.

Combines the talents of classically trained but musically omnivorous young virtuosi who pride themselves on their ability to play just about anything, regardless of style, time period, or instrumentation.
