The core period-instrument formation of two violins, recorder/traverse flute, cello/viola da gamba and harpsichord/organ is expanded with guest soloists for “Kingdoms & Viceroys: Music of Spain and its Dominions.” The program features works by Durón, Falconieri, Castellanos, de Salazar, Handel, Quiroz, and Literes, Baroque-period composers from Europe and the Americas. On Sunday, November 22nd the New York-based baroque ensemble REBEL will be making their first appearance in Eugene, providing a free-thinking approach to the Baroque style. The program will demonstrate the close cultural connections between Spain and its colonial lands in Latin America and Italy. The dance rhythms and occasional use of native languages provide an example of the relationship between European and indigenous cultures.
