‘Tis the season for Messiah, and two special performances conducted by Helmuth Rilling are among those on the airwaves before the Christmas holiday.

KWAX will broadcast the July 9, 2009 world premiere of the new Messiah by Sven-David Sandström Saturday, December 19 at 5 pm Pacific Time.

Captured live for broadcast, Sandström’s work was the artistic triumph of the 2009 Oregon Bach Festival, commissioned by the OBF and Bachakademie Stuttgart, conducted by Helmuth Rilling, and
resulting in an instant and emotional ovation for the composer and
musical forces.

Rilling conducts the New York Philharmonic and his Gachinger Kantorei in Handel’s Messiah recorded live at Lincoln Center and broadcast on KWAX Wednesday, December 23 at 8 pm Pacific. The maestro is in residence with the NY Phil for five performances of Messiah Dec. 15-19, with members of the OBF Conductors Society attending the finale.

To listen to both, tune in locally to KWAX at 91.1 FM, or worldwide at kwax.com.
