Ya-Fei Chuang
Guest Artist
Acclaimed by critics in this country and abroad for performances of stunning virtuosity, refinement, and communicative power, Ya-Fei Chuang has appeared at numerous international festivals, including the Beethoven Festival in Warsaw, European Music Festival Stuttgart, Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Bach Festival Leipzig, Taipei International Music Festival, and—in the United States—the Ravinia, Sarasota, Gilmore, and Tanglewood festivals. She has performed with the Spectrum Concerts in Berlin, at the Celebrity Series in Boston, at the Fromm Foundation concerts at Harvard, at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and at venues such as the Cologne and Berlin philharmonic halls, the Konserthaus Berlin, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, and Symphony Hall in Boston. Chuang performs as a duo partner with Kim Kashkashian, Robert Levin, and Steven Isserlis. The Ruhr Piano Festival (Germany) has released two CDs of her performances there: her May 2007 solo recital, which was also distributed as a premium by the leading German music magazine Fono Forum, and live performances of the Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No. 1 in G Minor and Concerto for Two Pianos in A-flat Major. She has given the world première of works by Stanley Walden and Thomas Oboe Lee and will soon première John Harbison's Diamond Watch for two pianos, written for her and Robert Levin. Chuang's recent engagements include concerts and recordings in the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, with the Malaysian Philharmonic, and in the National Concert Hall in Taipei as well as performances in England, Germany, Austria, South America, and throughout the United States.
