Gretchen Farrar

Gretchen Farrar is delighted to lead the Development department for Oregon Bach Festival. A seasoned arts administrator and fundraiser, Gretchen relocated to Eugene prior to the 2015 Festival for the position of Associate Director, Corporate, Foundation, and Donor Relations, and she assumed leadership of OBF fundraising in 2016.  As Development Director at Burlington City Arts in Vermont, Gretchen was previously responsible for all aspects of BCA's fundraising, including membership, business sponsorships, major gifts, and development events.  Gretchen was Associate Director of Planned Giving at the New York Philharmonic and she has worked in individual giving for New York City Opera.  For over a decade, Gretchen has managed artists behind the scenes with Richard Tucker Music Foundation's annual fundraising gala featuring internationally renowned opera stars performing a televised broadcast at venues including Avery Fisher Hall and Carnegie Hall.  Gretchen assisted directing performances for Elysium-Between Two Continents in Germany and New York, coached early professional singers on a career in the arts, and she has written about the music profession for Classical Singer magazine.  A soprano, Gretchen has performed with opera companies including Anchorage Opera, Eugene Opera, Dicapo Opera, and Hudson Opera Theater.  She has programmed and performed in recital series throughout the northeast, offering works from Renaissance to contemporary composers.  A passionate advocate for education in the arts, Gretchen was a teaching artist for the Metropolitan Opera Guild in New York City schools and she received her Master’s in Music in Vocal Performance as a Graduate Teaching Fellow at the University of Oregon.  A recipient of grants from the German Academic Exchange Service and Italian Cultural Institute, Gretchen speaks German and Italian and has a strong reading and conversational knowledge of Spanish and French.
