With its meld of music and meaning, the Discovery Series has long been considered the heartbeat of the Festival. In his penultimate season as artistic director, Helmuth Rilling delves deep to explore the structure and symbolism that give Bach's telling of the last days of Christ its unrelenting power. The St. Matthew lecture concerts will be filmed in high definition as the next major work on the OBF's innovative DigitalBach website. The third lecture-concert includes the movements from No. 38a, with Peter and the Evangelist, through No. 54, the chorale "O Haupt, voll Blut und Wunden."
