Bach proved his creative prowess in this set of thirty inventive and increasingly complex variations upon a simple aria, encompassing a remarkable range of styles and forms. Usually performed on solo keyboard, the Variations are heard here in a unique string arrangement that deepens their tonal colors and character, allowing Bach's genius to fully blossom. The Portland Baroque Orchestra performs this concert on period instruments, touring to Astoria, Lincoln City, Corvallis, and Eugene.
