A solo voice who’ll fill Carnegie hall tonight is in residence for four big concerts in Oregon over ten days this summer. Guess who? Thomas Quasthoff. Here's the story. Justus Zeyen, Thomas’ accompanist tonight in New York, accompanied him at the Oregon Bach Festival for many appearances. Justus isn’t coming this year, but the audiences loved him and we wish him well, of course. read more

Mid April – taxes are due, tulips are in bloom, and T-minus 8 weeks to the start of the Festival. It’s also the time of year we unveil our season billboard. It was looking good in the magical 7 pm sunlight on Saturday night. If you’re in Eugene, check it out for yourself at the foot of the intersection of the Ferry St Bridge, 8th Ave., and the Federal courthouse, heading south towards the University of Oregon. Mendelssohn’s “Elijah": A Whirlwind of Vocal Firepower

On Monday night, the Boston Symphony Orchestra performed Mendelssohn’s grand oratorio “Elijah" at Carnegie Hall. Here’s The New York Times review of the performance, which included as Elijah the bass-baritone Shenyang, who also sang Messiah with Helmuth Rilling in New York last December. On July 9th in Portland and July 11th in Eugene, experience the power of Thomas Quasthoff in the title role, and the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus and Orchestra marshaled by conductor Helmuth Rilling. read more

Helmuth Rilling, Backstage Photo Filming for promotions of this year's Oregon Bach Festival is complete! More or less. Actually, there are a few pick-ups that still need to be filmed, but that's not going to delay the editing process, where everything comes together. If you've never been on stage at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene, Oregon, this still from yesterday's filming gives you an idea as to what performers see while in Silva Hall. OBF Alum Osvaldo Golijov’s Musical “Passion”

Airing on Good Friday, Oregon Bach Festival alum Osvaldo Golijov was on KBUR's On Point with Tom Ashbrook. The program covered Golijov's “Passion According to St. Mark" and the history of passion music. Golijov’s work was commissioned by Helmuth Rilling’s International Bachakademie Stuttgart, making its northwest premiere at the Oregon Bach Festival in 2005, with Osvaldo in residence.
