Today's ChamberMusic@Beall concert by the Szymanowski Quartet of Poland was elegant, subtle, deeply textured, nuanced, and an overwhelming crowd pleaser.  Arriving in Eugene Saturday from Hannover, Germany, on the start of  a West Coast tour, the group showed no signs of jet lag in an exquisite two hours that featured quartets by Mendelssohn and Dvorak not usually heard in these types of concerts. But the buzz afterward was about the encore, a lovely three-minute "Melody" by Ukrainian composer Myroslav Skoryk from the score from the film High Pass. Gregorz Kotow, the quartet's second violinist, said the song will be included on the Szymanowski Quartet's next CD, coming out in a few months on the Hyperion label.
