Emerging composers from around the world gather every other year to engage in a community of creativity and collaboration. Professor Robert Kyr of the University of Oregon is program director. Components include concerts of works created by symposium participants and workshops with esteemed composers in residence.
Such composers as Stephen Hartke, Martin Bresnick, Osvaldo Golijov, Tan Dun, and Krzysztof Penderecki have shared their talent and experience in the symposium.
The 2013 symposium celebrated creativity and innovation through “Living Music,” which included more than 30 premieres by emerging composers. Master artists-in-residence Craig Hella Johnson (Conspirare Company of Voices), Fireworks, and Beta Collide performed these works with the American Creators Ensemble (ACE).
