Major Gift Rechristens Saltzman Endowment
More than halfway towards its goal of $10 million, the Festival Sustaining Endowment last night was given a financial boost and a new name.
Betsy Richanbach, Festival Board president, and husband Mark pledged $100,000 to the endowment, announced during a private party at their home. The Richanbachs and Pete Moore, endowment co-chair, also announced a name change to recognize the legacy of Royce Saltzman, the Festival's founding executive director. It will now be known as the Saltzman Endowment.
The name change came about as the Richanbachs were discussing possible naming opportunities with Allan Price, the University of Oregon's vice president of advancement. Through their gift the couple wished to acknowledge all that Saltzman has done for the organization, the community, and their lives during his 37 years of leadership. Further, they wished to give others the same opportunity to donate in Royce's honor during his last year as director.
"It will really be a pleasure for me personally to work directly with Royce to finish the job we started," said Moore, adding that others now can honor Saltzman by contributing to the endowment that bears his name.
Betsy Richanbach is the Marketing Director for the law firm of Harrang Long Gary Rudnick and has served in a wide range of fundraising capacities as a Festival volunteer. Mark is also on the Festival board, and is a Financial Consultant with Wells Fargo Private Client Services.
They both expressed great joy at being able to make a substantial gift. "We wanted our gift to be part of something bigger. Jane Scheidecker (OBF Development Director) and Hal Abrams (Sr. Director of Gift Planning) of the UO showed us endowment giving options that helped us to realize we could make a more substantial gift. We're grateful for their help and hope others take advantage of this opportunity."
The announcement caught Saltzman by surprise. "I am overwhelmed, grateful, and honored," he said. "My goal is to see the endowment goal achieved."
"Betsy and Mark's gift will be catalytic and inspirational," concluded Price. "This opens the opportunity for anyone who deeply appreciates Royce, whether they are here or across the world, to step forward and give, to ensure a long future of excellence."
