Audition Dates Set for High School Choral Academy

[caption id="attachment_2859" align="alignright" width="219" caption="Anton Armstrong teaches and inspires participants in the SFYCA"][/caption]High school singers looking for a challenging summer music experience can now book an audition for the 2009 Stangeland Family Youth Choral Academy, the OBF's nationally-recognized summer training and performance program conducted by Anton Armstrong. Interested students can audition by recording or in person at one of nine open auditions in the Pacific Northwest, Feb 7-March 17. Students are asked to register in advance for an audition appointment. Here's the schedule: Feb 7 PORTLAND #1 Laurelhurst Presbyterian Church, 9:30 am-3:30 pm Feb 12 EUGENE #1 Agate Auditorium, 3-5 pm Feb 12 SALEM First United Methodist, 6:30-9 pm Feb 19 TIGARD Tigard HS, 3:30-5 pm Feb 21 PORTLAND #2 Laurelhurst Presbyterian Church, 9:30 am-3:30 pm Mar 10 EUGENE #2 Agate Auditorium, 3-5 pm Mar 11 TACOMA Charles Wright Academy, 3:30-5:30 pm Mar 12 SEATTLE location TBA, 3:30-5:30 pm Mar 17 MEDFORD South Medford HS, 3-5 pm The SFYCA takes place as part of hte Oregon Bach Festival June 25-July 7. In addition to the training and classroom elements of the program, which include rehearsals, seminars, and movement classes, participants in this year's SFYCA will perform in several concerts including:
  • Segments of Bach's Christmas Oratorio in the Discovery Series, conducted by Helmuth Rilling
  • In an outdoor fireworks concert July 4, part of Eugene's annual Art in the Vineyard celebration
  • As the chorus in Felix Mendelssohn's incidental music to A Midsummer Nights Dream in a theatrically staged main event in the Hult Center July 5
  • A headline concert July 7 conducted principally by Armstrong, and also with Rilling leading Mendelssohn's Psalm 42
