OBF cofounder wins national choral award
Royce Saltzman, OBF co-founder & director emeritus, will be the inaugural recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from Chorus America, the nation’s leading service organization for the choral community.
The award is given to a member whose long-term service to the choral field is judged to have significantly furthered the organization’s mission “to build a dynamic and inclusive choral community so that more people are transformed by the beauty and power of choral singing.”
Announced Thursday May 13, the award will be presented June 18 during Chorus America’s annual conference in Atlanta.
Royce Saltzman cofounded the Oregon Bach Festival in 1970 with Helmuth Rilling. He is former president of the International Federation for Choral Music; former national president of the American Choral Directors Association; former faculty member and associate dean of the School of Music, University of Oregon; and a former board member of Chorus America.
