Conducting class deadline March 1
[caption id="attachment_2759" align="alignright" width="220" caption="Helmuth Rilling, master teacher"][/caption]The March 1 deadline for auditions to the Oregon Bach Festival Master Class for Conducting is approaching fast, but there is still time for interested conductors to gather material and send it in for consideration. Whether this is the first time you have heard about the class or you have been dreaming about it for years, this is the time to give it a try.
The twelve conductors selected will help prepare the concerts of the Discovery Series under the guidance of Artistic Director and Master Educator Helmuth Rilling along with the OBF Chorus, Orchestra, and guest artists. The 2010 Master Class will be the first time Maestro Rilling has presented Bach’s powerful B Minor Mass in the lecture/performance format.
As an added dimension, conductors will study modern and period performance approaches to two of Bach’s Orchestral Suites under the guidance of guest teachers Jeffrey Kahane and Monica Huggett. Conductors will lead both the OBF Orchestra and the Portland Baroque Orchestra.
The class is ideal for conductors with advanced training and experience who are looking for the opportunity to enhance their skills with artists of the OBF caliber.
Audition material, as detailed on the Master Class page, should demonstrate one’s full ability as a conductor in both rehearsal and performance, and the ability to communicate through the baton and vocal directions. Video clips of the applicant leading chorus and/or instrumental ensembles are important for the class directors to assess both achievement and potential in finding the right candidates.
