Since 1979, the Oregon Bach Festival's Discovery Series of lecture-concerts has brought together musicians, audiences, and student conductors in an exploration of music and meaning. Helmuth Rilling's concise lectures and illustrative examples have paved a road of understanding for two generations of student conductors and thousands of audience members. The following lectures, transcribed by Marla Lowen, preserve Rilling's insights in a format suitable for lay readers and professional musicians. Diversity marks the 2014 OBF’s next generation
